How well and fully a clinic, hospital, diagnostic center, or dental office is equipped with the necessary medical devices largely depends on its suppliers. Therefore, any healthcare facility must approach the selection of medical equipment suppliers very carefully and responsibly. The effectiveness of diagnosing and treating people depends on the quality of the devices and materials, as well as on timely technical maintenance.
The most important factor that enables a healthcare institution to be equipped with the best technology is choosing the right supplier.
In this post, we will explain what types of suppliers and representative offices exist, and what functions they perform.
So, equipment suppliers can be divided into the following groups:
- Manufacturers. If manufacturers are located in Ukraine, they can either distribute their products independently or through a network of dealers who provide service and promote the products. Repairs and information support for foreign manufacturers are handled by exclusive distributors or representative offices.
- Representative offices of manufacturing companies. They may perform the following functions: informational support for supplied products and service bases (either as independent organizations or on the basis of dealers and distributors). Official deliveries are carried out through them, but they do not sell the equipment directly.
- Exclusive distributors are organizations that have signed an agreement with the manufacturer granting them the sole right to import products into the territory. They assume the functions of a representative office and are also obliged to provide equipment repairs. Exclusive distributors may sell equipment directly or through a dealer network.
- Official distributors have the right to import products but do not hold all the rights of a representative office; however, they have their own service base. They also operate either through direct sales or via dealers. They supply equipment throughout the country.
- Authorized distributors. Their main difference from official distributors is that they supply equipment only within the specific territory assigned to them.
- Dealers. Their main purpose is direct sales of medical equipment to end users. Only the largest of them have their own service bases.
All of the above organizations belong to the official market.
Unofficial suppliers:
- “Gray” dealers are companies that import equipment into Ukraine bypassing official supply channels. In theory, they provide informational support and service maintenance. In this case, the equipment is inspected at customs, and all documents may be authentic.
- “Black” dealers import equipment without customs clearance. Accounting documents, serial numbers, and other identifiers are either missing or falsified.
NOTA BENE! Unofficial dealers cannot guarantee the quality and reliability of the equipment, do not certify medical devices in accordance with technical regulations, and therefore cannot supply equipment legally. It should also be noted that since they do not have official authorization from the manufacturer to distribute the products, they are unable to provide warranty and post-warranty service for the equipment.
